Family Services

The people who make up New York Medical University are truly a family, so we understand that for you to be successful as a medical school student, your family’s needs have to be met.

The education system in Curacao is modelled after the British system. Education is mandatory for children between the ages of 5 and 16. The educational programme in Curacao is administered by the Ministry of Education and is free for nationals in all government-run schools.

Enrollment into any school REQUIRES a student visa from the Curacao Immigration Department, which must be obtained before the child has a place in a school. Children are tested by each school to determine what class they should attend. There are no tax benefits for enrolment in Barbadian schools.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Before a child can be considered for admission, the school must be provided with the following (this may vary depending on the school’s requirements):

  • Valid student visa (obtained from the Curacao Immigration Department).
  • A completed application form.
  • An application fee. This fee ensures the processing of the application.
  • All school records for the preceding three years, where the child has been in school for three years, as well as the results of any formal assessments, such as standardised tests and the findings of any psycho-educational assessments that may have been undertaken by the prospective students. (The school operates on the basis of transparency and it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to bring to the school’s attention at this stage all pertinent information relating to the child’s prior educational history).
  • A doctor’s report and student health record.
  • A birth certificate or passport verifying the child’s date of birth and nationality.
